When Katie Wilson began writing for a popular internet blog in June last year, little did she know she would be jetting off to Denmark to attend the Eurovision Song Contest just 12 months later.

Wiwibloggs.com is the #1 Eurovision blog on the internet, with up to 300,000 hits a day.  Having written over 30 blogs for the website, 15-year-old Katie found herself submerged in, and intrigued by, the world of press coverage and journalism.  On 4 May she travelled to Copenhagen, Denmark, on an all-expenses-paid trip of a lifetime.  Katie spent a week in the capital, interviewing contestants, attending press meetings and watching rehearsals and performances.

Having been in the country less than an hour, Katie met Ireland’s infamous twins, Jedward, in the airport: an unexpected start to the week.  In an experience she described as “non-stop and overwhelming”, she was able to explore Danish culture in the city, meet and interview competitors from France, Latvia, Malta, Macedonia, Poland, Finland, Hungary, Italy, and Romania, and even personally congratulate the winner of the contest.

Being the youngest of only eight bloggers invited to Copenhagen, Katie was an exception in a normally age-restricted press community; yet this did not prevent her from making long-lasting friendships with the other bloggers and singers, most of whom are from different corners of the world.

“The trip exceeded all of my expectations!” said Katie.  “I know the memories and friendships I made will last a long time.”
