TRANSITION WEEK 1 – Students

Hello there, Year 6, and welcome to your virtual transition page. Over the next 6 weeks, we will be looking at lots of information that will be really important for you when it comes to starting Emmanuel in September.

You’ll get a chance to find out about the uniform, the subjects you will be learning, who your tutor will be and also the extra-curricular activities we offer during school time.

Every week, there will be some information in the form of videos, text and other interactive content. After this, we will give you a task each week to help you to understand the changes that are going to happen on your journey into secondary school and how you can be best prepared.

We really hope that the next six week will have you feeling more confident for this big step in your education and also have you feeling excited to come and join our community of Emmanuel College.

Getting to Emmanuel College

When you come to Emmanuel College, it is really important that you know how to get into the college grounds. This will be different for each of you, dependent on how you will arrive at college. Some of you will arrive by the scholars/public bus, some may be dropped off, some may walk or others may even decide to cycle to school. Whichever is going to be your chosen way, you need to ensure you know where you will be dropped off and how you will then get into the building.

The map below is a bird’s eye view of Emmanuel College. This means you can see the school from above. On the map there are way points. Each of them will give you some information about what that area is used for and also staff you may see at that particular point on your journey into college. As well as this, there is an option to look inside the school building on the school’s plan. On here, you can click on different points to find out about some of the key staff you will get to know when you arrive in the building.  Have a go at finding out a little bit about the journey to school by exploring the map below. The staff have even included some fun facts about themselves and how they will be able to help you during your time at Emmanuel College.

Task 2

At Emmanuel College, we consider every one of our students to be made in the “Image of God”. As individuals, we are all infinitely precious and made for a purpose. We want you, as our new Year 7 cohort, to be proud of your individuality and your differences.

We are tasking all Year 7 students with creating their own individual and unique tile to represent who they are. This could include drawings of your hobbies and/or interests, your culture, your religion and what makes you so special as an individual.

You will all receive in the post a hexagon tile from Emmanuel College. You need to create a design onto this tile to showcase you. You can draw in any material you wish to do this. When your tile is complete, keep it safe, and bring it with you to your first transition day on Monday 5 July 2021. You will then be able to attach it to a wooden backing.

As a year group, you will create a total of 240 tiles. These will represent you as individuals, but also you within the year group. These will be attached to the walls in the Year 7 area of school to create a mural for all to see that we are all amazing individuals made in God image.
