Welcome to week 4 Year 6! This week we are moving on from looking at the uniform at Emmanuel College to thinking about what subjects you will study in Year 7.

When you arrive at Emmanuel, you will have a chance to study a greater range of subjects compared to what you have at primary school. Each of your subjects will follow a curriculum that has been written by a curriculum lead. A curriculum lead is someone who helps to plan lessons for what you will be learning about in your subjects, ensuring you learn as much about their subject as you possibly can.

Some of you may be a little nervous about studying more subjects. However, this is a chance for you to learn new and exciting things about each of the topics and will help you to broaden your mind.

This week, you are going to hear from some teachers who will tell you all about the subjects you will be studying at Emmanuel College. As well as this, some of them have given you an opportunity to try out some elements of their subjects through a task.

What will I study at Emmanuel College?

When you join Year 7, you will be able to study 12 different subjects. These are outlined in the timetable below. Some subjects you will have four times a week such as English and Maths, others you will have once a week such as choir, music and art. These lessons will primarily take place in department areas.

What will I study in each of my subjects?

We have made this interactive so you can find out about each subject and what you will learn about in each of them.

  1. Hover over the logo that will represent a subject.
  2. A box will pop up that will tell you about what you will learn in that subject.
  3. Continue to do this for the other subjects to find out more.

Task 1  – Subject Taster Activities

This week, some of the heads of department and curriculum leads have set some tasks for you to have a go at. These tasks will give you a taster of what subjects will be like when you arrive at Emmanuel College.

You may have studied some of these topics before, others may be brand new to you. To access the tasks follow the following instructions:

  1. Click on the links below with the name of the subjects.
  2. Download the document attached.
  3. Read the instructions and complete the activity.
  4. Keep hold of your work and bring it in with you when you arrive in September.

You do not need to complete all of the tasks. You may pick one that particularly interests you. Why don’t you have a go and find out something about what we offer in our curriculum here at Emmanuel College.
