12-year-old golfer Adam Charlton has reached the world platform having gained the right to play in the US Kids World Golf Championship!

Three and a half years of playing the game has seen Adam rise from county through national and on to international level.  Adam, who plays golf at the Hobson Golf Club, practises every night for more than one and a half hours, dedicating time to all aspects of the game from putting and driving to fitness.  He said, “You can have all the talent in the world but if you don’t work at it and develop it then the gift is wasted!”

In late July, Adam will travel to the Pinehurst Resort, North Carolina, to compete against the best young golfers on the planet.  The competition has been played there for eight years and this year’s competition will take place on all nine courses, depending on age category.

Adam joined the path to Pinehurst in summer 2014 when he rose victorious in a qualifier held at Brancepeth Castle Golf Club, Durham.  After that, he travelled to St Andrews, Scotland, known worldwide as the ‘home of golf’, to play in the British championship where he finished as the second-best eleven-year-old, only beaten by one shot.  He said: “To compete in such a big event is nothing short of a privilege!”

Adam will first travel to the ‘Big Apple’ before completing another flight to North Carolina.  Funding for the trip comes from a fundraiser held at his golf club, the Hobson.  Michael Hoy, the organiser of the event, believes it is crucial that the club and its members support Adam on his journey to the US and assist him in his quest for greatness.  The event raised over £1,400.

Adam is coached by Andrew Nicholson who, just last year, won the England Golf ‘Coach of the Year’ award.  In the past, Nicholson has worked with players as famous as Justin Rose and Luke Donald.  Adam has been coached by Andrew for the past year or so and in that time his game has gone from strength to strength.

All eyes remain on Adam as he travels to the land of the Stars and Stripes!  We wish him every success.
