Appointment of senior prefects

Monday 22 January 2024

A number of weeks ago, Year 12 students were invited to apply for the senior prefect roles.  Overwhelmed by the response, the sixth-form team met with alumna Lauren Bathan, HR Associate Director at Jackson Hogg, to plan a suitable recruitment and selection process.  In recent days, after much anticipation, students were put through their paces to determine who would be offered each of the 13 leadership roles.

An intense selection process ensued.  In the first instance, students joined a group task which focussed on problem solving, discussion, listening, and teamwork.  During lunch, students had a short time to prepare for their Good Morning Emmanuel audition!  Whilst the broadcast was not live, the atmosphere was still tense, as students joined their co-hosts to demonstrate their ability to speak in public, discuss the news in a professional and informed manner, and interact with staff and students.

At this stage, the sixth-form team paused for thought, shortlisting the candidates in advance of the final interviews.  This proved to be an extremely difficult task given the outstanding calibre of the contributions thus far.  Each of the remaining candidates had a panel interview with Mr Ogborn and the sixth-form leadership team.  The students handled the interviews with tremendous aplomb – a real credit to themselves!  Indeed, the standard was so high that 18 students were eventually awarded a senior prefect role.  Congratulations to all those who participated in the day’s activities!  We have appointed Assistant Head Boy and Girl, Assistant Heads of House, Charity Coordinators, Publication Editors and students who will oversee Sixth-Form mentoring of younger students.

The newly appointed Assistant Head Boy and Assistant Head Girl, Adam Arnold (VI Hall) and Freya Burdon-Watson (VI Hall), and their team of senior prefects look forward to working with staff, students and all other stakeholders to ensure that all students are valued, challenged and inspired.
