Emmanuel’s best swimmers plunged into the pool for a morning of fierce competition as the annual Swimming Gala returned after a two-year break due to the pandemic.
Almost 100 students gathered at Dunston Leisure Centre on 12 October, all keen to earn points to bring victory to their House. The atmosphere poolside was electric, and around 60 parents/carers joining us to spectate and cheer on the competitors.
Students’ conduct was exemplary, and several staff at Dunston Leisure Centre commented afterwards on the impeccable attitude, good manners and excellent behaviour of those who attended.
Year 7 student Amber Mclean was competing for Derwent House. “It was great participating in a team with members of the House that you would not normally meet,” she said. “I loved watching the Heads of House cheering all the swimmers on and seeing the older year groups supporting the younger years.”
“The highlight was definitely the celebrations when the winner was announced and the winning team lifting the House Cup,” added Amber. “Everyone wanted their House to win, and there was a sense of togetherness and community working in a team with the rest of the House. I would love to do it again next year!”
