Guildhall Band and Gala Concert raise the roof!

The month of May kicked off in style for our musicians with a visit from the Guildhall Brass Band and the annual Gala Concert.

It was a fantastic experience for our brass and wind instrumentalists and several Year 7 classes when the Guildhall Brass Band visited College.  The band of student brass players in their second, third or fourth year at Guildhall played for our young instrumentalists, demonstrated how to use mutes and answered many questions from the eager audience.  Our Emmanuel College brass and wind players also had the unique opportunity to play alongside the professional musicians in a special lunchtime session.

Just two days later, our young musicians had the chance to showcase their own skills in front of a packed audience at the Gala Concert.  The choirs entertained the audience with classical, musical and pop numbers, the orchestra took us back a few weeks to Les Misérables, and the Jazz Band had us tapping our feet and clapping along.  A huge ‘well done’ to all of those who took part, from beginners to Grade 8 musicians!  This was the last Gala Concert for our Year 13s, and we thank them for their excellent leadership in the Music and Drama department.
