Decorated international karate champion Luke Barron (Year 10) has once again proved his mettle, this time winning a silver medal at the WUKF Karate Championships in Florence, Italy, in November.
It was a huge event, with 21 countries competing, 1,852 athletes, 260 coaches and 70 referees. Luke scooped the silver medal in the 14-15 team Kata (with a new team member who was taking part in his first competition). In the 14-15 individual Kata, Luke looked very strong and made it into the final six. The final scores were very close and he finished fourth, just missing out on a second medal.
“When I found out I had won silver, the feeling was inexplainable!” said Luke. “I felt beyond amazing, and immensely proud of both myself and my team mates, Marcus and Lewis.”
