Speedy Spanish speller wins place in National Finals!

Super-fast spelling skills have landed Year 7’s Harry a place in the National Finals of the Foreign Languages Spelling Bee at Cambridge University.

In late April, we hosted the Regional Finals of the Foreign Languages Spelling Bee.  Students are given a list of 200 words and must spell as many words as they can in the target language in one minute.  From over 900 students competing in the first stage of the competition, there were 14 students selected to go to the Regional Finals.

Our very own Harry (Year 7) achieved a personal best and secured first place in the Spanish Regional Finals.  He will now be preparing to compete in the National Finals at Cambridge University in June.

We would like to congratulate Harry on this fantastic achievement and wish him the very best on his journey to the Nationals!

Spelling Bee co-ordinator Ms O’Connor said: “The Spelling Bee is a challenging competition that allows students to really excel in their language learning.  I am so proud of what Harry has achieved and any student looking to improve their linguistic abilities should definitely give this a go!”
