Spelling and Translation stars win places in National Final

Language whiz kids Catherine Harness and Eishal Sattar (both in Year 8) travelled to Sheffield Hallam University this week to compete in the Regional Final of the French Translation Bee. ย This competition involved Yearย 8 and 9 students from the North East, North West,ย Yorkshire and the Humber. ย Both girls performed brilliantly, translating an impressive number of sentences in just one minute from English into French using three different tenses. ย Catherine achieved thirdย place overall, and has won a placeย in the nationalย final. ย She will joinย Jedidahย Ohiomokhare (Year 7), our third-place winner in the recent Spelling Bee regional final, who is also heading to the national finalย in Cambridge in July.

It will be dรฉjร -vu for Catherine, who competed in the national final of the Spelling Bee last year and produced a blisteringly fast performance to finish in third place. ย Letโ€™s hope that she can match that level of speed and precision in translation! ย We wish Catherine and Jedidah โ€œbonne chance!โ€ and look forward to hearing news of the outcome.
