Top translator says “Guten Tag” to National Final!

Friday 9 June 2023

Budding linguist Kathryn Archbold (Year 9) gave a tremendous performance in the Northern Translation Bee Regional Finals to secure a place at the National Finals at Cambridge University this summer.

Kathryn was one of five students from Emmanuel College who competed at the Regional Finals at Lancaster University on 8 June.  They were up against students from 17 schools, competing in three languages: French, German and Spanish.

Kathryn’s chosen language was German and, against very stiff competition, she gave a superb performance, combining speed with accuracy to secure a place in the Finals and fourth-place finish overall.  She will be attending the National Finals at Cambridge University on Monday 3 July, where we hope all her hard work will translate into success!

Also competing this summer at Cambridge University is Year 7 student Harry Hewitt, who won the Spelling Bee Regional Final for Spanish in April.  He is currently preparing to compete in the National Finals at Cambridge University later in June.

We are very proud of the achievements of Kathryn and Harry and of all our students who made it to the Regional Final.  Well done to Sophie Evans, Daisy Todd, Penny Todd and Joshua Pani for demonstrating your outstanding language skills!
