Year 10 Rugby team triumph!

Friday 1 March 2024

The Year 10 Rugby 7s squad had a series of superb wins and managed to secure the Plate in a prestigious Rugby competition.

The invitational 7s Rugby competition brings together top schools from all over the North-East, Cumbria and Scotland, and it gave our lads a fabulous opportunity to show what they’re made out of!

After the group campaign, the boys managed to secure two solid wins – 36-0 against St Mary’s and 14-7 against Prudhoe – and a very narrow defeat to Gosforth, who took our lead with the final kick of the game.

These results meant that we narrowly missed out on the Cup semi-final place by just two points’ difference.  With their sights now firmly set on winning the Plate, the boys were through to the Plate semi-final against Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham.  After going 10-0 down at half-time, the squad rallied and played some excellent rugby, eventually running out 19-10 winners!

After a quick team-talk and guidance from Mr Foster, the boys proceeded into the Plate final against Dame Allan’s, where they played fantastically.  They dominated the game, eventually running out 41-7 winners and securing the Plate as champions!

This is a fine achievement by all the boys and a memory they can all treasure.

Mr Foster’s Player of the Tournament was Marley Thompson.

“It was great to see all the lads come together as a squad, to play our best against some of the top schools in the north,” said team member Harry Sword.
