Yes Chef! cooks create exquisite afternoon tea

Friday 23 June 2023

Our four Houses cooked up some delicious cuisine on the theme of an afternoon tea in our annual Yes, Chef! competition on 16 June.

The rivalry was so fierce and the standards so high that the judges found it impossible to choose one winner.  Greek specialities, Mediterranean treats and new takes on British classics tantalised their taste buds and transported the judges to other countries and cultures.

The variations on the theme of an afternoon tea were impressive and diverse.  Team House created, in the words of Mr Ogborn, a “sort of wild, deconstructed classic English afternoon tea … with some of the most amazing cakes I’ve ever tasted!”.  Derwent House opted for a Greek-style spread with some “fantastic flatbreads and great puddings that made us feel like we were in Greece”.

After 20 minutes’ deliberation, Derwent and Team were declared joint runners-up in second place, with Don and Pandon crowned this year’s joint Yes, Chef! winners with six points each.

“It really was all outstanding,” said Mr Ogborn.  “All had different strengths and it was very, very difficult to choose the winner, which genuinely reflects the standards in the kitchens.”
